Living in the shadow of doubt

a new thing

A few years ago, my father was diagnosed with a chronic disease of the liver (thought to be autoimmune in nature). (His disease has progressed and he has just been placed on the waiting list for a liver transplant. If you pray, would you pray for him as he waits?). This disease is not common but it can be hereditary.

About six weeks ago my GP picked up a few abnormalities (on blood tests and ultrasound) which are possible red flags for this disease. A liver density test last week showed my liver to be normal, which was great news. But it unfortunately doesn’t rule out the possibility of me having this condition (it could, perhaps, be in the very early stages), so I’m waiting now to see a gastroenterologist in about six weeks to find out more.

A shadow of doubt has been cast, and we have to wait.
